Description
Class Experience
This class introduces students to the impact that dopamine levels and dopamine transporter density have on the ADHD brain. Students will identify strategies they are currently using to satisfy their "hungry brains". Students will evaluate which of these strategies are healthy and which may lead to distraction and less healthy choices. As a class, we will brainstorm other activities that can keep student brains busy and help them focus. Students will then create their own "dopa-menu", a...
Through group discussion and personal reflection students will leave class with a concrete menu of strategies for keeping their brains busy and improving focus.
Bridget Smith, a credentialed teacher, is a person with ADHD. She is also mom to two kids with ADHD and other learning differences. She has a Master's Degree in Education: Teaching from the University of California Santa Cruz and has worked with learners preschool-adult.
If you do not finish your "dopa-menu" in class, I recommend that you finish it on your own time.
Art Supplies: papers- colored or white pens and pencils colored pens, colored pencils, or crayons
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
