Learners may use the skills they learned to write various words and phrases outside of class. Totally optional, but calligraphy is addictive. Don't be surprised if you find sticky notes with fancy grocery lists, random words, and homework assignments. :) Practice makes perfect! Use the free, provided printable practice sheets over and over to master your skill.Class Experience
Faux Calligraphy (also known as fake calligraphy) is a great way to explore the art of hand-lettering! Traditional calligraphy requires many tools such as ink, proper paper, and specific nibs. With faux calligraphy, you can achieve gorgeous typography with only a pen and paper. We achieve this by duplicating the downstroke, giving the iconic "calligraphy" look to our lettering. In this class, we will explore basic skills that apply to all calligraphy writing, commonly used strokes, and the mechanics of faux calligraphy. Learners will use the provided practice sheets for warm-up drills and then will have the opportunity to create their own faux calligraphy masterpiece.
Learning Goals
- Proper posture
- Commonly used strokes and how to achieve them (hairline, downstroke, under turn, overturn, oval, ascending loop, descending loop, and compound stroke)
- Using guidelines
- Faux calligraphy capitals
- Faux calligraphy minuscules
