Welcome to Spanish Summer Camp! Don't fall behind this summer! Get a leg up on the coming school year with Señora Sarah. In this 1-week Spanish crash course, we'll meet a total of five times to learn the basics of Spanish with friends! Here is a breakdown of what we'll learn in each class: Day 1, Monday August 22nd: Hello's (6 ways to say hello in Spanish) AND Goodbyes (6 ways to say goodbye in Spanish) Day 2, Tuesday August 23rd: Names (Asking for a name and answering) AND How Are You...
This class is taught in English.
Students will learn over 50 words and phrases to express themselves in Spanish.
I hold a Bachelor's Degree in Language Education. I have spoken Spanish for 18 years. I lived in Mexico for 6 years, where I used Spanish in everyday life. I hold a TEFL certificate. I have taught foreign language online since 2014.
Homework will be completely optional and assigned in a post in the virtual classroom. Homework may include custom worksheets and word searches, all designed by the teacher.
Students will not need anything special for this class. They will only need a working electronic device that can operate both Zoom and the Nearpod website. I recommend that students bring a pencil and a notebook to class, to write down new vocabulary. Alternatively, their parents can print out the vocabulary list for them, which I'll provide each day in advance.
Assessment is informal for this class. The teacher provides written feedback to each family regarding what was the learned and the students' performance after most lessons. Feedback may also be a general post in the virtual classroom regarding the vocabulary and grammar points studied during that day's lesson.
4 hours 10 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Please note that I use Nearpod for my lessons. Nearpod is a website that allows teachers to create slide presentations with interactive activities for students. A link will be provided via the Zoom chat box during the live class to access Nearpod. I will also provide the necessary 5 digit code to access the lesson. If students wish, I can also provide them with a link to access the lesson on their own time after class. I may use Kahoot in this class. or I may not. Kahoot is a website where teachers design quiz games for students to test their knowledge and review what they've learned. If I use Kahoot in class, I will provide students with the necessary link and Game PIN to access the Kahoot game. I will also include this information in the virtual classroom, for students who wish to play the Kahoot game at a later time. Please note that I cannot provide Zoom links for students to enter the session. Outschool does not allow this. ***************************** TECHNOLOGY NOTE Children should be able to handle technological functions like accessing the Zoom chat box, turning on or off their microphone on Zoom, clicking a link to open the Nearpod website, navigating to the Nearpod website, and opening a new tab on their internet browser to see the Nearpod website. They should be able to click answers to questions on their screens. It would also be good for them to know how to navigate between Zoom and an external website, since they'll need to do this during class to participate in the Nearpod games. **************************** SKILLS REQUIRED Students need to be able to read to participate in this class. Students should also be able to write down their own vocabulary lists, either before or during the lesson, or their parents can print out the vocabulary list for them. They'll need the list to do many of the activities and play the games during the live class.
