Fashion Drawing: Beginner's Guide to a Strong Foundation (Ages 13-18)

In this 4-week class, students will not only learn how to draw but they will develop an understanding of garment characteristics to succeed in fashion drawing.

What's included

3 hrs 20 mins in-class hours
Homework
1 hour per week. Each week, students will be given an assignment to practice what they have learned in class. Practicing is the key to success! Students can also take my weekly Drink (Soda) N' Draw sessions to practice fashion model drawing under time intervals.
Assessment
Students will be informally accessed through sharing their sketches during class as well as at the end of the workshop when they present 2-3 of their final fashion figures.

Class Experience

Week 1: The 9-Head Croquis
Lesson on the 9-head fashion figure, how to perfect the technique. Students will practice in class and share their sketches. 

Week 2: Silk
Students will learn how to draw lightweight garments and render silk through teacher demonstrations. They will learn the relationship between fabric weight and drape. In class, we will draw and render together. 

Week 3: Denim
Students will learn the techniques for drawing and rendering denim through teacher demonstrations. In class we will draw and render together. 

Week 4: Fur
Students will learn the techniques for drawing and rendering fur through teacher demonstrations. In class we will draw and render together. At the end of our workshop, students will be asked to share & post 2-3 final fashion figures to our classroom page. 

Each week, students will be given an assignment to practice what they have learned in class. Practicing is the key to success!
Learning Goals
Students will learn:

- how to draw female fashion croquis, garments, render the garments, and add their finishing touch to their drawings
- to understand the relationship between garments and the body; how they interact
- to develop their own style of drawing & gain confidence through practice

Supply List
Students will need:

- blank paper 
- ruler
- scissors
- pencil & eraser
- fashion magazines (optional)
- colored pencils (especially white, black, blue)
- markers (especially blue)
