This course is ideal for aspiring fashion designers who are complete beginners or have struggled with drawing their own figures. This course is also suitable for young designers experienced in using figure templates (croquis) and who want to take their fashion drawing to a new level. Each class I provide easy step-by-step instructions on the screen for you to follow in your own sketchbook. My method does not involve rulers! I found more organic measurement strategies allow young learners to develop trust in themselves and their own style. You will do an example with me and then practice a second design on your own in class time. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions, get help if you are stuck and become sure in the methods you have learned. Course Structure Class 1 The fashion figure (croquis). We will draw a fashion figure together. You will learn how to get the proportions right and create an outline suitable for fashion illustrations. You then apply this knowledge and practice drawing a figure on your own. You will pick up tricks on how to adapt the figure to your fashion design style. At the end of the class you will have 2 fashion figure outlines. Class 2 Shading. In this session you will learn about light and shadow. We will use our fashion figure from last class and draw a simple outfit. I will show you how to use colour to shade the body and clothes so they look three-dimensional. You will then use your second figure to draw your own design and shade it with colour. Class 3 Movement and texture. We will draw a new fashion figure together (you will find it quicker and easy by now!) and I will demonstrate ways to solve 3 of the most common texture difficulties young designers have. This fashion drawing is a perfect culmination of all the new drawing techniques we learned. You will colour and shade your design and add an additional accessory. There is always time to ask questions and get individual feedback before the course ends. Other fashion classes you might be interested in: *ONGOING fairy tale inspired costume design class.
