Class Experience

This is a 2-week class focused on challenging students to think creatively like a fashion designer. While creativity can come naturally, it is also important to practice it regularly by training your mind to think outside the box. This class also allows students to be inspired by others, leaving our session together feeling more motivated or challenged. Through class presentations, students will practice discussing their own work with clarity and confidence.

Each week, students will practice developing their own creative thinking process in 3 parts:

Part 1: Warm-Up Session
Students will be given an inspiration/prompt and together as a class we will brainstorm ideas.

Part 2: Break-Out Rooms
Students will go into individual breakout rooms, research their idea(s), and sketch out their own design(s) in class. There will be some guidance as I check-in on their progress and help them develop their ideas.

Part 3: Regroup & Share Progress
Students will be asked to return back into the classroom and present their research, describe their thinking process, and share any sketches they may have. They do not have to have a fully developed idea by the end of class. Instead they are encouraged to ask their peers for suggestions and feedback in refining their design. At the beginning of our next class, students will be asked to present their final design including their research for critique.

The topic for each meeting will be as follows:
Tuesday March 21:
- Introduction to the class
- Students will be given the prompt: "Opposites Attract"
- Students will present their progress
Homework: Finish their design and be prepared to present it at the beginning of next class

Thursday March 23:
- Design Presentation & Critique
- Students will be given the prompt: "Architecture"
