Building on Fashion Design: The Fundamentals, students will learn the basics of creating a collection: choosing a color palette, choosing a season, and and an ideal customer. Session 1: Colors Why are bright colors more popular in summer than winter? How can limiting ourselves help unleash our creativity? During session 1 we will look at the collections of designers and identify the color palette and season of each. Discuss how a color palette and repeating fabrics can create a sense of unity. Students and Teacher will discuss ideas for the final project- creating our own collection. HW: Finalize your color palette and bring post one design before next class. Include what influenced the design. Session 2: The Customer You have the colors and the season- now we need our customer. We will discuss some famous muses that have influenced designers over the years, and create our own customer. Students will answer specific questions to help guide the rest of their collection based on the needs of their "customer". HW: Create 3-5 looks for a collection. Session 3: Buying There are many careers in fashion besides Fashion Designer- becoming a Buyer is one of them. Buyers work for Macy's, Nordstrom, Saks, and other department stores to help decide what will be on the rack for the next season. A student will "present" their collection to their "buyers" to see what they think!
