Beginner Level
This is a 3-Day series. Students will meet 3 times to complete Part 1. Please note: Classes will meet 3 times within the same week for Summer Break. It is a beginners class that focuses on the core basics and principles - croquis (figure), poses and fabrics. Students who have completed this class are recommended to join Series Part 2 and 3: Part 2: Clothes https://outschool.com/classes/fashion-design-camp-part-2-rendering-clothes-z2d4vp5L?refuid=RzeseCIM Part 3: Accessories https://outschool.com/classes/fashion-design-camp-part-3-rendering-accessories-fHA6N0O0?refuid=RzeseCIM Day 1 FASHION FIGURES (CROQUIS) Students will learn how to accurately build a 9-head croquis (a figure template that they can use to put clothes on), find harmonious proportions, and draw a stylized fashion figure from two perspectives - front and side. They will learn how to adjust the proportions to form a variety of body types to advocate the importance of having a positive body image of oneself. Day 2 FASHION POSES Students will learn how the body moves and balance the body using the Plumb Line. They will draw both standing and walking poses. They will use light and dark tones to illustrate body volumes. Class will explore the shades of skin and hair colors. We will open a discussion on the global progress on diversity and cultural acceptance in the fashion industry. Day 3 FABRICS Students will learn how to draw various textures of fabrics with some fundamental sketching and blending techniques. They will create the illusion of 3-D volume and density on a 2-D paper. They will learn how to render the lightness of transparent chiffon and stiff cotton, the luster of smooth leather, the softness of knitwear and wool, and the texture of fluffy fur. _______________________________________ Please read below for frequently-asked questions on our policies: Mandatory Video Check-In Video check-in is mandatory for safety purposes per Outschool policy. Students are required to have their cameras on to allow the teacher to check in and verify each learner. After check-in, students have the option of either turning off their camera or leaving it on, whatever is their preference. Refunds & Missed Classes All of our classes are backed by Outschool’s standard policy. To receive a full refund, parents may withdraw or stop their subscription within 24 hours of payment OR 24 hours before class starts, whichever occurs earlier. No refunds are issued if a learner misses a live meeting. Recordings are made available in each classroom and can be watched at their convenience. Students are always welcome to reach out with any questions and share their work in the classroom. Class Recording Access Learners must JOIN A LIVE CLASS ONCE in order to lift Outschool's safety protocol and unlock access to video recordings of class meetings. Learners who have not attended a live class but need access to the recordings must contact verification@outschool.com to apply for a lifetime verification badge. In the event that no students are in the classroom at the assigned class time, the teacher will leave a message in the classroom and exit after ten minutes of waiting per Outschool policy. Minimum Enrollment & Class Cancellation A minimum of two learners is required for every class to run. In the event that we have to cancel a class, parents will be notified within 24 hours of class. Learners will have the option of either transferring to a more populated section of the same class or receiving a full refund, whichever is preferred. Technical Difficulties In the event of class delay/ cancellations due to unforeseeable technical issues, all families will be notified and a make-up section will be posted, or a refund will be issued if a make-up class cannot be scheduled.

Students learn to draw step-by-step, understand the core principles, master tools and techniques, compare materials, trust their intuition and vividly express themselves and convey their fashion ideas through sketching and illustrations.

Teacher Katie is a professional artist with a background rooted in animation, where she crafts captivating illustrations for a diverse clientele. She holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Entertainment Arts and Animation, and utilizes her love of telling stories through her work in story-boarding, illustration, and animation. Her passion in theatrical and costume design and the entertainment industry in general has contributed to an innovative approach in her teaching as well as inspired many students that she met in her classes. Teacher Katie is committed to nurturing an atmosphere of intrigue and creativity, where she empowers her students to unearth their unique narratives within their artistic work.
Teacher Palm is a professional fashion and costume designer familiar with the complete product creation life cycle from initial concept to constructed design. She holds a degree in Fashion Design from The Parsons School of Design in New York. In addition to over 10 years of teaching art and fashion, she is also experienced in staging collections in numerous international Fashion Shows for luxury clients including Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg, Ann Taylor and Kenneth Cole. She gained valuable industry experience in the capacity of Creative Consultant for designers, theaters and art schools. Palm is also proficient in a wide range of fine arts such as watercolor, oil, pencil, pastel, etc. and approaches her teachings with a calm mind, optimism and positive affirmation.
