Description
Class Experience
Leather, fur, silk, velvet and more- learn the technical aspects of rendering different fabrics accurately so our fashion sketches look as real as possible. During each class, we will look at the history and variation of each textile type, watch a brief video (or look at a live demo if I own the fabric in question) to examine how the fabric moves and what qualities exist that we need to consider while drawing. If the student owns some of each fabric, I encourage you to have it on hand to...
Students will identify different textures in fashion. Students will analyze how different fabrics move. Students will render textures onto fashion designs. Students will create a final collection using many different textures.
I have been teaching fashion design for over 5 years and have taken courses at some of the top universities such as FIT and Parsons, where I have picked up many tricks of the trade.
Students should practice the skill. Students will create a 5-look collection using different textures.
Paper, pencil, eraser, thin black marker Special materials for this class: Chalk pastels (crayons can work in a pinch) A q-tip for blending (can also use your finger) + Your regular coloring materials, including colored pencils and markers. You'll want a large variety because for many textures we need to have light and dark shades to show the texture. It could be helpful to have some of each fabric to closely examine but it's not absolutely necessary.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Students will draw on a nude, undetailed figure called a "croquis"
