Welcome to Fashion Design Advanced! This is THE essential class for students hoping to one day attend fashion college or university! This class is the most advanced fashion design class I offer. Students must have either taken both Fashion Design: Fundamentals and Fashion Design: Build a Collection OR have demonstrable fashion design experience. Students who have not taken these 2 classes with me must provide proof via Outschool message that they have experience designing or they will be...
This class is taught in English.
Students will gain a better understanding of the design process. Students will create a muslin mock up of a garment. Students will learn some tailoring techniques.
I have been teaching students from as young as 8 to create fashion items from sketch to a model. It is an absolutely essential skill for fashion designers to understand the entire design process.
Create garment throughout the course of the class.
Students will need: Paper, pencil, thin black marker, coloring materials. Students will also need sewing materials. This can include a sewing machine, scissors, pins, thread, ruler, measuring tape. Butcher paper/newspaper/other thin paper to create a pattern. 1-4 years of muslin fabric (to know exactly how much, contact me with your design) Other notions; students may need to go to a fabric store to purchase items.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 4+ hours per week outside of class.
Students will need to sew during this class. They can sew by hand or by machine. Only their parent or guardian can know how much supervision they will need. Garment may not come out perfectly- only time and practice can improve student work! Students may be pointed to YouTube sources for certain specialized sewing techniques if needed.
