Class Experience

This is my 5th year teaching beginning fashion design at my studio, and I also start our drawing lessons with this unit. Though students may prefer to ultimately download croquis from the internet, I believe it is important to have a foundation in understanding the body before continuing on to draw and design clothes.
Students will need: -8.5x11" paper or larger. Computer paper is fine. -Pencil/eraser/sharpener -Colored pencils -Markers -Ultra fine permanent marker (like Sharpie)
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
3 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
We will be dealing with the female form. I also include a discussion on how to be body positive, and how the fashion industry is heading towards more realistic body types. We will discuss why the fashion figure looks like it does. My biggest concern with teaching fashion is dealing with adolescents who are self-conscious, but I believe with the right dialogue they may feel more confident after.
