I have a BA in Political Science, a MA in secondary teaching certification in all social subjects 5-12 and a post-Masters degree in educational technology to enhance learning. I've taught social studies subjects for 10+ years, with a majority of my experiences teaching American History. I've also attended several workshops and professional development opportunities focused on incorporating America's past in current discussions about today's landmarks, historic buildings and monuments.
Students will need to spend time daily reading the assigned chapters.
A digital or hand copy of the book is required. I will provide all other curriculum related materials.
Formative assessment will be included at various times and parents can request a more formal review.
3 hours 45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
As with many social science topics, sensitive material/topics are likely to occur. As a certified and professional teacher, I will work hard to assure that all discussion/content is age appropriate. Without giving away huge details in the book, parents should be advised that internment resulted in limiting/removing the rights of a group of people, based solely on their race.
