Class Experience

In this ongoing group, learners have an opportunity to get together and chat weekly. Learners will have a chance to lead discussions and express themselves without judgment.

My goals for this class are as follows:
-Help learners with socialization skills.
-Help learners gain or improve public speaking skills.
-Help learners feel comfortable with expressing themselves.
-Create a safe space for learners to make new friends and enjoy themselves.
-Help Learners learn about different cultures from their peers.
-HAVE FUN!

At the beginning of each meeting, I will introduce all new students and go over the rules. To give each learner an opportunity to lead discussions, I will use a spin wheel of names. Every time a learner's name is chosen, their name will be removed from the wheel until every learner has had a chance to lead. However, learners will have the option to pass until they feel comfortable leading.

To start a discussion, the chosen learner will choose a topic to discuss and spin the wheel to ask a silly questioc. Learners will have the option to speak their answers, sing their answers, or quickly draw their answers. If a learner feels uncomfortable speaking or singing, they can put their answer in the chat.

As the moderator, I will use redirection strategies to avoid inappropriate questions and answers that make other learners uncomfortable. The last 5-10 minutes of class will be free chat.t.

* Some topics may be revisited, at learners request*

At Miss Brandy's Fun and Learning Academy we have a strict NO BULLYING rule. We believe that it is crucial for learners to have a safe space free from bullying and judgment. We expect learners to respect each other and be kind to their classmates at all times. We will not tolerate bullying in any form. However, we will give students an opportunity to correct their behavior before they are removed from class.

Behavior issues are handled as follows:
1. A verbal warning will be given to the student.
2. Student will be placed in a waiting room or break room (depending on the severity). The teacher will chat or have a verbal discussion with the student and student will be allowed to return to class.

Learning Goals

Students will improve socialization and public speaking skills, while gaining and/ or improving confidence.
