Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 2
Beginner Level
Welcome to "Fantasy Factory," where young minds embark on an exciting journey into the magical world of creative writing! This class is designed for beginning writers aged 5-7, eager to unleash their imagination and craft captivating tales.

In this interactive and engaging class, children will dive deep into the writing process, discovering the joy of transforming their thoughts into stories. Through fun activities, they'll learn the fundamentals of basic sentence writing, mastering the art of constructing clear sentences that form the foundation of every great story.

Young writers will also uncover the enchanting power of adjectives. They'll learn how to sprinkle their writing with descriptive words, paint vivid pictures with their sentences, and bring their stories to life in dazzling detail. From "big" adventures to "sparkling" castles, adjectives will become their magical tools for creating imaginative worlds and characters.

As we embark on this literary adventure, we'll also delve into the essential elements of storytelling. From developing characters and setting the stage to crafting engaging plots, children will learn the building blocks of a compelling narrative.

During the class, students will have the opportunity to express their creativity, share their stories with their peers, and receive supportive feedback from our experienced instructors.

Join us on this magical journey and let your child's creativity soar!

Students will keep a writing journal for their ideas and drafts. We start the class with a pre-writing activity. Then we'll draft sentences that can help build their story. Students will then share their sentences with the class, or only with the teacher if they choose, to get feedback for revisions.

After class, students will revise their draft and submit it to the teacher to assist with editing. Students are encouraged to publish their work in the format of their choice to complete the writing process.

———— 🏊 About the Founder, Paula Smith 🍕 ————

Hello! I'm excited to offer over 20 years of teaching experience to your child's educational development! I offer a wide variety of reading and spelling classes geared toward elementary through middle school-age students.

My specialty is getting non-readers, struggling readers, and readers with Dyslexia, back on grade level in 12 clinical hours or less using the Phono-graphix method.

I have maintained a private reading clinic out of my home for twenty years and I am very proud to see some of my very first students graduating from college and becoming teachers!!!

I believe that my job as a teacher is to find the best way to help each student, rather than imposing a one-size-fits-all approach. To do that, I keep my class sizes small and offer private tutoring sessions. I identify reading difficulties and tailor my teaching to help students overcome them.

I use the Phono-graphix method of teaching reading which was developed for students with Dyslexia. The Phono-Graphix method is based on the Science of Reading. You can learn more about this method by visiting Phono-graphix.com. I was trained in person by the program authors and have had success with it for over twenty years.

My passion is serving my students academically and by encouraging them to adopt this powerful success formula: identifying desired outcomes, knowing what inspires them, taking massive action, noticing their results, and updating their approach.

I am a happily married mother of three and enjoy reading and being a fan of my hometown teams, the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Royals!!!
