In this 6-week course, the learner will apply a variety of reading comprehension skills and increase their vocabulary.
Class experience
US Grade 1 - 4
In this course the learner will learn a variety of reading comprehension skills such as plot, theme, point of view, imagery, context clues, predictions, figurative language, character traits, etc. Each week the learner will be given vocabulary to increase their skills. The class will meet twice a week with one day focusing on the skills and the other day focusing on the comprehension of the book. The book study will be structured in the following ways: Week 1: Chapters 1 - 3 -Vocabulary...
Students will improve their understanding of the text and be able to answer higher order thinking and comprehension questions. Students will apply their knowledge of various comprehension skills through activities and readings.
Homework Offered
Learners will be assigned the sections of the book to read to be prepared for the course. Either the learner can read it themselves or have the chapters read to them. There will be a culminating project at the the last class that the learner will work on throughout the course. Readings should take about 30 minutes a week. Learners will be assigned specific chapters and deadlines to have it read by.0 - 1 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Informal assessments of the learner will done via the discussion and the final project.Grades Offered
