In this one time class we will review the growth of fungi; covering spore release, monokaryotic and dikaryotic hyphae, spitzenkorper cells, primordial formation and mushroom growth, and fusion and division of cells in the basidium.

Class Experience
This is an introductory/review course where learners will explore the terminology and life cycle of mushrooms. We'll cover the following terminology and topics of mushroom growth: • How hymenium tissue of different species release billions of spores that germinate into 1st generation hyphae and under the right conditions fuse into the 2nd generation form. • We will cover how fungi release enzymes into a substrate to feed and grow, and • the fusion haploid cells and division of cells in...

Students will explore the life cycle of fungi from spore to mycelium, to mushroom growth, and back to spore release.
