In this 7 week course learners will explore the 5 Types of Folktales; Legends, Myths, Tall Tales, Fairy Tales, and Fables. In order to analyze plot, understand characters, appreciate illustrations, and uncover the moral or message of folktales, students must first have a good understanding of the characteristics of all folktales. They will investigate different stories to recognize the similarities between all folktales and the small differences that distinguish each of the five types of folktales. Each week learners will be introduced to different stories including Aesop's Fables, Tall Tales (like Paul Bunyan and Johnny Appleseed), Myths, Legends, Fairy Tales, and Folktales from other cultures. Learners will analyze the characters, plot, conflicts, figurative language, and morals or lessons in each story we read. I love to make learning engaging and fun. This course will utilize various techniques to help learners retain information in the way they learn best; visual, auditory, or kinesthetic.
