In this 5 day art camp students will weave, stitch and needle felt their way through the creative world of fiber arts!
Class experience
During this fun, hands on art camp students will spend 5 days taking a deep dive into fiber arts. We'll look at the work of a variety of fiber artists and incorporate their unique styles and techniques into our artwork. This class will be filled with fun & learning but also will be a relaxed space for participants to create and chat together. Day 1 will include a review of weaving terms and skills. Students will learn vocabulary associated with weaving, stitching and needle felting. Students will observe and identify key elements of design in the work of professional fiber artists. Students will create unique artworks inspired by fiber artists and their works.
1 discarded record album or 3 discarded cds cotton string or skein of white yarn variety of yarn, ribbon or 1/2" -1" wide fabric scraps approximately 18" long or longer masking or painters tape scissors embroidery hoop square cut linen, muslin or cotton to fit in hoop embroidery / tapestry needle variety of embroidery floss blue fabric marking pencil or washable fabric marking pen needle felting needles (2 in case of breakage) wool roving variety of colors & white felting foam block or mat 6-8" length of ribbon *Needle felting supplies can be purchased in small kits at Hobby Lobby, online at Amazon or through Back to Back Alpaca. Cost of supplies will vary by supplier.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students should have basic weaving, needle threading and knot tying skills before enrolling in this class. Day 1-3 students are encouraged to continue to work on pieces outside of class. There will also be a list of youtube videos provided for students to watch to refresh their memories on stitches they have learned in class.
