Does your learner have a favorite book series, tv show, or movie that they like to go back and revisit? All characters (literary or otherwise!) have stories left to tell. One way to capture the interest of a reluctant writer is through high interest subject matter. By allowing learners to write a story about their favorite characters I can capture their attention. This class is taught in English.
During this class, students will practice story organization, use of story elements, and creative writing. Learners will... -Practice their writing skills. -Actively engage their thinking skills when creating a new story about familiar characters. -Practice their oral presentation skills when sharing the story that they have created. (Optional- Learners will be encouraged to share, but it is their choice.) -Use their active listening skills when hearing the stories that their classmates have created. -Provide positive feedback about the stories that they hear in class.
Education- Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction Certification- Elementary School, Spanish K-12, ESOL K-12 Experience- 9 years as a public school teacher. Three years as a stay-at-home parent to two young children.

Disclaimer: Please note that although students will be able to choose the characters that they wish to write about they will not be able to write about any violent topics, weapons, etc. The teacher will guide them towards engaging their characters in a different, nonviolent manner should such topics arise.
