Class Experience

Students will learn how to write many types of fan fiction and engage safely with online fan fiction writing communities.
I have taught several types of fan fiction classes and have spent many years reading and writing fan fiction of my own. Prior to teaching on Outschool, I was a high school English teacher, where I spent an entire unit on digital literacy and internet source evaluation.
Students will participate in weekly discussion boards and complete a writing assignment each week. These vary in length, as some simply involve creating a single character and others involve full stories. They will also give thorough, constructive feedback on each other's stories.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will be assessed on their contributions to class discussions and quality of writing assignments.
No live meetings, and an estimated 1 - 2 hours per week outside of class.
Many fan fiction websites contain inappropriate content. I will go over how to use search filters and privacy settings, but parental guidance is advised if students are using any of these websites. Use of the websites is not required for class.

Additionally, since this is a creative writing class, some students may choose to write about mature concepts.
I will refer to three popular fan fiction websites, Archive of Our Own, FanFiction.Net, and Wattpad. None of them are required for class, and parental guidance is strongly encouraged.
