Class Experience

What happened to Aurora? Where did Jonas go? Who is Oliver Pruitt? How does Mr. Q keep saving Mars and his friends? What is going on on Gale Island? Come and talk the mystery with other fans of this adventure packed podcast. In this ongoing class we will talk about different episodes from the first season. Together we will talk about development of the different characters, try and solve cliff hangers from the episodes, how the sound effects impact the presentation of the podcast. What clues have been left by the author of the podcast to help guide us to the outcome? We will not be listening to the podcast in class, we will just be sharing our thoughts and opinions on the episodes from the first season. Please make sure you have listened to all of the first season before joining class, to hopefully avoid any spoilers! This class will be a positive, inclusive class. Where students will be able to practice open ended conversations, building community and friendship with people who have a similar like to them. In order to help guide conversation, I will provide open ended questions about the different episodes to help facilitate the conversations. This ongoing class will give learners a chance to practice their comprehension and recall. Students will also be practicing and building inference skills. They will be finding the topic, main idea, and supporting details from the episodes, along with sequencing, character development, and settings.

We will try and just follow the episodes from the first season in order during our discussions, however, after listening to the whole thing, it is understandable that sometimes future episodes will be mentioned and talked about. We will discuss how each episode got its title, and what clues might have been given in each of them.

Hello all! I have a Master's degree in education and am a homeschooling mom to 3 boys. I've known since I was a child that I wanted to be a teacher and have been teaching for over two decades in a variety of ways. The different experiences I've had educating people occurred while I was a swim instructor, nature day camp counselor, substitute teacher, and a teacher at our homeschool cooperative. Some of my favorite topics I've taught include fractions, patterns, beaver ponds, Legos used as reading comprehension skills, Australian marsupials and monotremes, and pirate geography. I have also been an online ESL teacher for the last 4 years. My favorite part about teaching is helping students gain an understanding of topics they're struggling with. Helping guide children to the "light bulb moment" is so rewarding. I believe that learning should be fun, and interactive, that questions should be asked, and knowledge shared. It shouldn't be just a teacher standing in front of students talking information at them, there should be a give and take. and conversation taking place between the teacher and the students. Questions should be asked by the teacher and the students. Information should be presented in a fun, easy to understand manner. Being married to an Aussie, Australia, especially the animals there, is one of my favorite topics to teach about. My favorite Australian animal is a Cassowary. For fun, I love to spend time with my children, read books, play different board games, swim, and watch movies.
