In this flex class, students will learn about scientists in various science fields, including per week: Week 1- Biology Week 2- Genetics Week 3- Physics Week 4- Ancient Scientists Week 5- Chemistry Week 6- Geology Week 7- Mathematicians Week 8- Space Scientists included will be famous scientists throughout history and will include men and women and their contributions to science. Students will learn about the many different scientists in many science disciplines and their contributions to science. Students will learn about when the scientists was alive, what changes they made, and more. Topics will include both male and female scientific contributions.
I am a 5th grade teacher having taught elementary science for 2 years, and have taught middle school science for 8 years from 6-8th grade. I am licensed as a science teacher from 6-12 grade, with a Masters in Science Education. I like making learning relate to real world experiences so students can connect to material easier than standard memorization. I review in a flow pattern that starts with basic information and expands into complex information to assist students with retention.
Students will receive weekly activities to engage regarding scientists from the week.
Students will be provided hand-outs for notes to keep for their possession each week, along with printable resources for activities. Students will also need a pencil to complete activities.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Students will receive a kahoot link at the end of each week to assess their knowledge of the scientists. Scores are available for immediate release after completion of kahoot activity.
No live meetings, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Science fields will be discussed including how scientists changed science. Brief mentioning of many topics, including evolution will be discussed, but not in depth as to the principle of evolution.
Students will receive a note taker to record information about each scientist and their contribution for records. Students will also receive weekly kahoot codes for assessment
