In this class, we will learn about a different scientific discovery or invention from history each week. We will study the people involved in making the discovery and the science involved in it. I will provide handouts each week so that students can keep a record of what we are learning. We will end the 9-week class with students sharing about ideas for what they would like to invent or discover. Students will be encouraged to make a drawing or model of their invention idea or what they hope...
Students will learn about 8 scientific discoveries or inventions and the lives of the people who were involved.
Optional experiments and activities relating to the scientists each week. I highly encourage students to participate if possible. Week 1 - clear glass full of water, straw OR pencil Week 2 - flour tortilla, peanut butter, banana (if students have food allergies feel free to substitute ingredients or another snack) Week 3 - ruler, string, paper clips (about 10) Week 4 - crayons Week 5 - sheet of craft foam, ball point pen, stamp pad/ink Week 6 - 1 piece of construction paper, 3 pieces white paper, stapler, glue stick Week 7 - handouts provided Week 8 - Lego car or matchbox car, balloon, straw, masking tape Week 9 - handouts for review
Informal assessment through classroom review.
35 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
We will use a Kahoot game each week to review. Students can use the Kahoot app downloaded to a phone or tablet or just go to kahoot.it in a web browser with a parents help to play the game. Students will always have the option of playing on a team with the teacher instead of signing into the game.
