In this one time class we will learn about four female scientists, Rosiland Franklin, Tiera Guinn, Stephanie Kwolek and Dr. Helen Brooke Taussig. I believe in a learn through play philosophy. These women accomplished so much against unspeakable odds. We will follow their lives through an engaging slide show and we will relate their character traits to our own lives. We will then play a Kahoot game where two truths and one lie about each scientist will be presented and the learners will have to find the lie.
Learning Goals
Students will not only leave knowing facts about the lives and accomplishments of each scientist, but also feeling encouraged and empowered to follow their own dreams in the face of adversity.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I’m teacher Kelly and I’m a masters student in Counselling Psychology at City University of Seattle. I also love children and am a strong believer in the learn through play philosophy. During my undergraduate degree I completed a practicum at the University of Alberta’s Child Study Centre where play and project based learning were at the centre of our approach. I really love to teach about mental health (see my intro video), music and basic pre-school literacy. I am not afraid to be silly and I put my whole self into my classes. I have lead a children's music class where I directed children from age 3-11 to practise and preform simple songs. I love to put children in the "teacher role" and have them correct me (see my preschool literacy mix-up class). I have a bad habit of ruining every birthday cake I make so my good friend Leslie always makes my kids birthday cakes for me. Isn't that sweet? I think you will find my classes refreshing and fun (and I promise not to teach anything about birthday cakes). See you soon!
