I have been teaching German, composition, and arts & humanities for more than 25 years, and I speak German with near-native fluency. I have a PhD in German Literature and was the 2014 Indiana German Collegiate Teacher of the Year. I bring first-rate content knowledge and pedagogical expertise to the online classroom, plus a genuine love of working with young learners. Because I have extensive experience at the college level, I know just where high school students are headed and can expertly help them as they prepare themselves for the next step. My focus on learning strategies and study skills is an added benefit, useful for any learner. See my Profile Page for my resume.
If you have any questions about whether your learner's level of German proficiency is a good match for this class, feel free to send me a message. Here's an answer key for the words and sentences in the course description that you can use as a little placement test for your learner, if that's helpful: + Can you puzzle out the meanings of sentences like these? Es gibt viele Bäume im Wald hinter der Stadt. There are many trees in the forest behind the city. Die Schiffe bringen Produkte von einem Land zum anderen. The ships bring products from one country to another. Die Häuser sind sehr niedrig, und die Bergen sind sehr hoch. The houses/buildings are very low, and the mountains are very high. + Do you know some basic German words like these? der Baum, der Fluss, das Schiff, die Brücke, das Fenster, die Tür tree, river, ship, bridge, window, door + If I asked you questions like these in spoken German, would you understand? Wo ist die Brücke: im Hintergrund, oder im Vordergrund? Where is the bridge: in the background, or in the foreground? Wie viele Fenster gibt es in dem Haus in der Mitte: drei, oder dreizehn? How many windows are there in the house in the middle: three, or thirteen?
