Many artists throughout the ages have been inspired by the creative and dramatic tales from Greek Mythology and have created beautiful paintings based on ancient Greek Gods, Goddesses, heroes and monsters. In this class we will look at some of these paintings and learners will be welcome to interact and share if they have heard of the myths that inspired them. Learners will also be encouraged to make their own observations of each painting regardless of their Greek Myth knowledge. This class is open to everyone and no prior knowledge is required. A fun storytelling session while looking at famous paintings! Below is a list of some of the paintings we may discuss in this one-off class: Echo and Narcissus - John William Waterhouse Pallas Athena and the Centaur – Sandro Botticelli The Birth of Venus - Sandro Botticelli Minerva Punishing Arachne by Peter Paul Rubens Odysseus and the Sirens – John William Waterhouse The Lament for Icarus – Herbert James Draper Ariadne Abandoned by Theseus, Discovered by Bacchus - Angelica Kauffman Narcissus - Caravaggio
