This fun cooking class will empower your child to cook a variety of delicious meals that can be enjoyed by the whole family! Students will not only learn to prepare 9 recipes during the 4 days of the class, but they will also make dinner for your family, which means you don't have to cook! Each of the recipes used in this class are popular recipes I have used when teaching cooking workshops to middle school students as part of an after school cooking club. Here is a more detailed look at what we will be making during this class: Day 1: Loaded Nachos with a Pineapple Smoothie These loaded nachos are a delicious and filling crowd-pleaser, and you can wash them down with a tropical and refreshing pineapple smoothie! Day 2: Stovetop Mac and Cheese with Roasted Broccoli This macaroni and cheese can be made in just one pot, and we will pair it with some crispy roasted broccoli. Day 3: Cauliflower Buffalo Wings with Baked Potatoes, with a dessert of No-Bake Mini Oreo Cheesecakes These cauliflower wings are vegetarian, but they are so good that many believed they were actually chicken when I've brought them to potlucks! Baked potatoes pair well with this dish! For dessert, we will make some delicious mini No-Bake Oreo Cheesecakes! Day 4: Pita/Naan Pizzas with a Kale Caesar Salad These tasty, yet simple-to-make pizzas will be a hit with your family, and they pair well with a kale Caesar salad! This hands-on class will cover a variety of skills as I cook the food alongside your child. As we make each recipe, I will discuss some of the nutritional benefits of our ingredients, provide cooking tips, and give ideas about how students could apply these techniques to future cooking projects. The class will be very interactive as we work through the recipe together, and I will make sure students are able to be successful throughout the cooking process! This class does not require any past experience, but some parental supervision is needed as there is repeated use of the stove, the oven, and knives to cut vegetables (although these could also be cut in advance by the parent). The loaded nachos have the option to use beef, but all other recipes are vegetarian (and the nachos are vegetarian if the beef is omitted or if a meat alternative is used)!

Parental Guidance
Parental supervision is recommended, as we will be working with the oven each day of the class, the stove during two days of class, and working with a sharp knife to cut vegetables throughout the class. Of course, the vegetables could be chopped in advance if you didn't want your child cutting anything.
Supply List
Upon registering for the course, there will be an ingredient list provided. The equipment needed to make all of the recipes for this class include two baking sheets, a blender, a pot to cook the pasta in, a mixing bowl, and a knife.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello Outschool! My name is Sarah Settanni and I have taught Social Studies over the past five years, ranging from 6th grade to 9th grade. I currently work as an online course instructor (for adults) and curriculum developer, where I create middle school Social Studies resources. I received my teaching degree from the University of Illinois in 2014, and graduated with my Masters of Education in Global Studies in Education in 2018, also from the University of Illinois.
As an educator, I am passionate about hands-on and engaging lessons that prepare students for their future. Therefore, in addition to history and geography classes, I have also taught classes that pertain to life skills and career readiness. As cooking is another passion of mine, I received my plant-based chef certification in 2016 from Rouxbe Cooking School.
I look forward to being your (or your child's) teacher!
