I can provide a written summary describing what your student learned in the enrichment class for any documentation needed.Class Experience
US Grade 5 - 8
There is an unmistakable feel in the air as you walk along the path of your favorite park. You notice new colors on the trees, crunching under foot and a coolness on your skin. Fall is here. Let’s take our senses for a walk and look, listen, taste, touch and smell the natural world around us as it gets ready for winter. A few of the things you will learn about in this self-paced enrichment class are spiders & their webs, the sounds of chipmunks & squirrels, composting, and the difference between trees that drop their leaves and those that don’t. This enrichment class is a mixture of readings, videos, journal and worksheet activities as well as hands-on activities related to the reading content. The main topics covered are science based, but the readings and activities also blend into other subjects such as mythology, cultural crafts, geography and math. Though the class was created as a way to engage families to learn and play together in nature, it is not necessary for the parents to be involved. The goal is to provide youth (and their adults :) with enough information and activity to inspire them to continue their own explorations of the topic and the natural world outside their doors. Please have your child take pictures of their observations and send them my way. I would also like copies of the work and activites they complete. I will provide feedback on their work and send it back to them. If you would like grades on the completed work, I would be more than happy to provide that for you. And though there are no live classes, I am also happy to be available if there is a question or comment about the class. If you choose to print the program, the program is formatted (other than the cover page) to be printed front to back like a book.
Learning Goals
Students will explore the natural changes occurring in fall by engaging in activities that enhance their observation and appreciation of nature.
