THIS COURSE IS FOR STUDENTS WHO ARE AT A LATE INTERMEDIATE LEVEL - THIS COURSE IS HELD IN GERMAN In this course we will be focusing on strengthening our German foundational language skills. We will be reviewing Grammar rules, practicing grammar, discussing chapters from the book, answering comprehension questions and working on our writing skills. Everyone will be interacting with the teacher and the other students via Zoom meeting. We will be using the “Grammatik aktiv” workbook by Cornelsen and the chapter book "Der Hobbit" by J.R.R. Tolkien (the hobbit) . This course includes a lot of interaction, practice and fun. Homework is a necessary part of learning a language! I will be sending homework home weekly. The schedule will be following: Week 1: prepositions with dative, discussing chapter 1 "Ein unerwartetes Fest" (an unexpected feast) Week 2: prepositions with accusative , discussing chapter 2 "Hammelbraten" (roast mutton) Week 3: two-way prepositions with dative and accusative, discussing chapter 3 "Eine kurze Rast" (a short rest) Week 4: local prepositions, discussing chapter 4 "Drüber hin unten durch" (over down through) Week 5: comparative & comparative sentences, discussing chapter 5 "Rätsel im Dunkeln" (puzzles in the dark) Week 6: reflexive verbs, discussing chapter 6 "Aus der Pfanne ins Feuer" (from the pan to the fire) Week 7: possessive articles, discussing chapter 7 "Ein seltsames Quartier" (a strange lodging) Week 8: personal pronouns: accusative & dative, discussing chapter 8 "Fliegen und Spinnen" (flies and spiders) Week 9: article: interrogative and demonstrative, discussing chapter 9 "Fässer unverzollt" (barrels duty unpaid) Week 10: Präteritum: modal verbs, discussing chapter 10 "Ein begeisterter Empfang" (an enthusiastic welcome) Week 11: connect main clauses: position 0, discussing chapter 11 "Auf der Türschwelle" (on the doorstep) Week 12: connect main clauses: position 1, discussing chapter 12 "Aus gut unterrichteter Quelle" (from a well-informed source) Week 13: subordinate clauses , discussing chapter 13 "Nicht daheim" (not at home) Week 14: positional adverbs & directional adverbs, discussing chapter 14 "Feuer und Wasser" (fire and water) Week 15: particles , discussing chapter 15 "Die Wolken sammeln sich" (the clouds gather) Week 16: Plusquamperfekt, discussing chapter 16 "Ein Dieb in der Nacht" (a thief in the night) Week 17: reflexive pronouns in dative , discussing chapter 17 "Die Wolken bersten" (the clouds burst) Week 18: conjunctive, discussing chapter 18 "Der Rückweg" (the way back) Week 19: supposition and future with future 1, discussing chapter 19 "Die letzte Etappe" (the last stage) These books are required and can be purchased on Amazon: - Der Hobbit by J.R.R.
