Description

Class Experience

This class is taught in English.
By the end of this camp, students will be able to answer questions related to non-fiction text as well as read nonfiction text within the Lexile range of 100-190 with minimal assistance.
Homework is given, but not required. Students will receive a copy of the guided reading book as well as other printables after class. Students should reread the book frequently to build fluency. Parents are encouraged to make flashcards of words their child doesn't know and practice those words for homework. Parents should also provide the running record to their child to ensure their student is reading within their instructional range. Dictated sentences will also be sent weekly for students to practice their writing. Parents will need to dictate the sentences. Feel free to send me a screenshot of the student's completed sentence dictation assignments and I will look at them on a weekly basis. Students are encouraged to use the "Sentence Dictation" graphic organizer to write their sentences. Students are also encouraged to print the moveable pieces and rewatch the recording in order to move the moveable pieces to the correct place for extra practice/homework.
Students may want to bring a dry-erase marker and board to class to work on sight words or other phonics-related tasks we will be discussing during class. This is optional.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students' progress is assessed from daily participation and informal teacher observations.
1 hour per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
