This is a great course for those who want to start learning hand-lettering with a simple design. Together, we will create a beautiful sign using hand-lettered script writing to welcome the season. Having a basic understanding of cursive is a plus, but is not a must for this class. The focal point for this art-piece is the "hello fall" script writing, where we will focus on consistency and balance. Next, we will create a fall-inspired leaf frame to showcase our hand-lettering with alternating...
Our goals for this lesson are learning basic principles of hand-lettering as it pertains to script writing. This includes consistency when drawing letters to create a fluid look to our artwork. We will also discuss adding complimentary elements to create a balanced and complete art-piece. Some color theory is also included in this lesson.
I am a former Art Teacher and had the privilege of teaching art for 2 years to K-8th grade students using various mediums and forms. A lot of my class instruction was teaching the art of drawing. Weekly, we drew various compositions ranging from seasonal landscapes, wild animals, nature, and portraits. Students enjoyed learning skills to create realistic drawings while adding as much flare and creative variation as they liked. Watching students enjoy making art and grow in their own confidence was truly a priceless gift. In addition to teaching art, I am an artist and have an art studio in my home. I've used my love for hand-lettering and design to start a business in 2015 selling products with my work. It's been so fun!
Students will need 1 piece of printer paper (or cardstock), a pencil and good eraser, a fine-tip black outlining tool (marker or colored pencil based on preference), and coloring tools (markers, pastels, colored pencils, etc.). Please note that we will be using the various yellows, orange, deep red, and browns for this art piece.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Let's create together while building skills and confidence!
