Class Experience

Welcome to The Painting Panda Classroom: Fakemon Fan Art Drawing class.

This is a subscription class/ on-going class: meaning that you are automatically enrolled each week until you stop the subscription. Payments are made each Sunday for the class(es) for the following week. This is a high demand class, and spots go quickly!

Come join my subscription class for more advanced drawing skilled children as we learn to draw fan art based on inspiration from the objects, characters, and styles of art we find silly, cute, funny, powerful, and lovable. We will create our own Fan Art, fakemon, and become the authors of our own animated (hand drawn so cartoon really) stories full of characters, lands, powers, etc. We can learn more about how to best create our own cartoon characters (cartoon = hand drawn) (anime' = digital art) together. The learners are encouraged to discuss in class as much as they feel comfortable verbally or through the chat option (as long positive manners such as the following are followed: being respectful to all in class, being kind to all in class, being polite to all in class, being cyber safe, not spamming the chat) so that the chat can stay open to students. If your learner doesn't feel like sharing verbally, it would be very helpful if they would be willing to at least share their art work so I can help them if they have questions.

As per request from my students, we are changing up how class runs, so that is is more intellectually engaging. For each class we will be looking at different characters, objects, animals and learning how to create our own fakemon characters. We will learn how to create full stories, backgrounds, powers, draw and color each creation we design from the inspiration given each class. We will trade off each week, what inspiration we are focusing on, so that no one misses out, and it stays true to our on-going class set up, being independent of each class taught.

I'll be showing different specialized techniques for drawing (outline, shading and shadows and backgrounds, drawing from different angles and cartoon styles, Anime and basic Manga techniques for eyes, and faces, depending on the week). The supplies are listed below, please note that some supplies are optional, and you are welcome to bring other types of supplies not listed as well. I want this to be fun, and relaxing but engaging with the drawing we'll be doing.

If this is your learner's first Outschool class I recommend getting familiar with the Zoom interface and platform before the class starts. Outschool has a few articles and videos that can help. Unfortunately I am really unable to deal with any technical issues once class has begun and if you are experiencing issues, it's best to contact technical support at Outschool directly via the HELP tab on the website. https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/2133758-live-class-troubleshooting-tips-for-parents https://support.outschool.com/en/articles/802757-tips-for-your-first-outschool-class Parents students need a quiet spot to view class as I leave them unmuted for class. We can HEAR everything going on around them (chores, talking, eating, phone calls, siblings, dogs etc), this class is meant for students to engage with each other in conversation while we are drawing and discussing our lessons.

Teacher expertise and credentials
When I started The Painting Panda, I want to offer a variety of art classes, to many different ages of all children. My boys love LOVE love many types of animated shows with amazing fantastical creatures, objects, and monsters. We've been learning to draw them, play the games, and follow the popular shows for years now. I'm so excited to offer a class where we can all learn to draw our own fan art, fakemon, and become the authors of our own animated stories.

As mentioned in my teacher profile I have 10 years of experience teaching early education pre-K classes, in both North Carolina and Utah. I have been able to use my degrees in Visual Arts with a focus on Art History from NCSU and my Associate in Arts from Wake Tech Community College, to teach kids and adults: various art classes here in North Carolina for the past 7 years. With my scouting connections I have had 5 years experience teaching science and history classes in North Carolina and Florida. Whether it was as a Co-Op teacher for my local home school groups, Art merit Badge Counselor for the local Boy Scout clinic, teaching STEAM classes for Cub Scouts, Nail art and Jewelry Crafting to teenage girls in my church, or summer art classes through my business, The Painting Panda, I love being able to share what I have learned!
