Fake News Camp: Can You Tell the Difference? Learn to Spot a Fact or an Opinion

In this 2 session class, we will be examing fake news. Students will learn how to tell the difference between different types of fake news and create some fake news of their own!

Description

Class Experience

Students will be able to:
-know if a news source is reliable?
-be able to distinguish a safe website domain name from unsafe
-understand 4 types of fake news
-understand what is not fake news
-preform creative writing tasks to help them understand the topic material
-understand the difference between fact and opinion
-present a project to the class
Students will be given a writing assignment to create a fake news story. This will be shared with the class in the second session.
Students will be able to upload their writing assignments to the classroom if they choose to. Teacher feedback will be given.

In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
I will give students a link to a "Bitmoji Classroom" on our classroom page. From there they can access links to the projects and videos.
