Description
Class Experience
Retellings are a fantastic way to stretch the imagination and hone creative writing skills. With the basic story structure in place, students will learn to experiment with elements of fiction. One change--a tiny tweek in plot, a modern (or futuristic!) setting, a gender swapped protagonist--and they'll be on their way, developing skills and style while they're at it.
As a Young Adult author, I've traveled to schools all over the U.S. discussing my books, publishing, and creative writing with students. I've also taught high school English and elementary school. Kids have extraordinary creative gifts--imagination, fearlessness, tenacity--and I love being a part of their development.
Just a challenge to finish their retellings!
Pencil and paper are the only materials required.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
55 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
