In this fairytale themed ballet class, dancers will get to build up a strong and well rounded ballet technique while dancing to their favorite music from the worlds of ballet, film, and Broadway. Each class will begin with a classical warm up, and then to center practices including small jumps and flexibility exercises. We will finish each class by learning choreography from classic fairytale ballets such as The Sleeping Beauty and Cinderella. Fairytale Ballet is specifically designed for the virtual platform and does not require an excessive amount of space to participate in this class, while not sacrificing quality of learning.
Learning Goals
Dancers will build a strong foundation of ballet technique and vocabulary while also getting the chance to become familiar with the vast fairytale ballet repertoire.
Other Details
Parental Guidance
The safety of your dancer is my highest priority and they will always be supervised and participating in age appropriate exercises that cater to their skills. However, it should be noted that this is a physical fitness class and a certain amount of risk comes with any dance art. This class in particular is designed so that dancers will be moving in a compact radius but it is advised that dancers have a clear area around themselves to avoid any accidental collision with furniture while kicking or moving their arms and legs. It is always a good idea for dancers to have a water bottle handy to stay hydrated. For this class, dancers are welcome to wear ballet shoes, but also may be bare foot. I request that dancers do not wear socks as they can cause slipping.
Supply List
Dancers are encouraged to come in leotards and tights or a t-shirt and blank pants and ballet shoes with hair pulled back in a bun but this is not required. They should however be wearing comfortable clothes easy to move in with any long hair pulled away from the face. It is always wise to have a water bottle handy.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Sources
Music will be featured from such ballets and musicals as Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty, the Broadway musical Anastasia, and Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella.
