US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
In this ongoing class, the students will listen to a fiction story. The stories will be read with fluency and expression with chances for the students to interact with the text and make predictions about what will happen next. We will talk about the author and illustrator. We will identify the parts of the book including the front cover, back cover, spine, and title page. We will discuss reading the words as well as reading the pictures to gain a better understanding. The students will learn why it is important to retell a story in the correct order including the beginning, middle, and end; identify key characters, and the setting of the book. They will apply reading comprehension skills as they are relevant to each story including: making predictions, asking questions, retelling the story, drawing connections to the text, visualizing the story, drawing conclusions, and synthesizing the information. Each class will feature a new fiction story so students are welcome to join the class at any time. Teacher expertise and credentials
Virginia Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hi! My name is Molly. I am a wife and mother to five (James is 6, Collin is 4, and triplet 2 year olds, Grace, Hazel, and Nellie!). I received my B.A. in Psychology and Public Policy from The College of William and Mary in 2009. I received my M.A.T.- Elementary Education from Liberty University in 2011. I have 5 years of formal classroom experience. I spent 4 years teaching Kindergarten and 1 year teaching 1st grade. I also served my brick-and-mortar school as an International Baccalaureate program coordinator. I have spent the last several years as an online ESL teacher to students across the world.
I LOVED teaching in the kindergarten classroom because it taught me that learning can be magical. I have learned how to channel that momentum to create wonder and engagement in little learners. I like to incorporate a lot of movement and song into my classes and believe in learning with the whole body. I view my role of teacher as the guide and know that students learn best through the hands-on, engaging experiences that I am able to provide for them. I have a passion for teaching early literacy skills and like to incorporate aspects of math, science, art, and other disciplines into my lessons whenever possible.
My classroom will always be positive, inviting, interactive, and engaging. I am so excited to meet your child. I cannot wait to be a part of your child's educational journey!
Let's learn and have fun together.
- Miss Molly
