Class Experience
Fairy tale are magical and evoke a feeling of whimsy and creativity in their audience. In this flexible schedule class, students will have the luxury of learning and creating whenever it is convenient for them! This is a fun and engaging session where children are encouraged to express themselves through art and be inspired by classic children's literature. The class offers a series of prerecorded videos that you will have access to, as well as instructional handouts, individualized assessments of their work and the opportunity to share their work with fellow learners. Each detailed, easy to follow video will be dedicated to one art lesson. A new lesson will be uploaded every week and learners may submit the finished piece that day or later in the week. The time frame for submitting lessons is flexible, as the classroom will remain open for posting and discussion for 8 weeks.The learners will have a colorful collection of the following 8 pieces at the end of the session: Week 1: The Princess and The Pea (watercolor, oil pastel, collage) Week 2: Goldilocks and The Three Bears (drawing) Week 3: The Frog Prince ( Watercolor with oil pastel resist) Week 4: The Three Little Pigs (printmaking/stamping, collage) Week 5: Rapunzel ( Collage and texture) Week 6: Little Red ( Painting with focus on value, perspective and emphasis) Week 7: Jack and The Beanstalk (Drawing and painting with focus on texture, line, and space) Week 8: Cinderella's Carriage (watercolor painting) Elements of art such as color, line, shape and texture will be introduced and practiced. Learners will understand different ways to treat paper to achieve a variety of effects, practice the collage technique and learn new watercolor techniques. The concept of mixed media will be discussed, understood and implemented as well. Participation in the classroom discussion will be required to check for proper understanding and to promote a sense of community among enrolled learners. Participation may include adding positive comments to other learners’ posts, sharing a video response, or posting a comment or question. Why a flex class? * Flexible schedule classes are wonderful for families who have busy schedules or are sometimes unable to commit to a certain day or time. * Learners from all time zones may participate * Learners may work at their own pace. Videos may be paused or rewatched at any time. * If any questions arise, the instructor is just an email away. Art is so important! Through process art, children: * develop fine and gross motor skills * practice problem solving * gain confidence * learn to navigate through mistakes * experience stress relief * and so much more!
Other Details
Supply List
Basic art materials such as construction paper, oil pastels, watercolor and tempra paints, scrapbook paper, scissors, glue, and crayons will be used. Specific lists will be given each day. Entire Supply List: * 6-8 sheets of white construction paper, 1 sheet light blue, white or green pieces construction paper * sheet of brown or tan construction paper, pink paper * 9x12 watercolor paper * variety of painted papers, scrapbook papers and /or colored construction paper scraps * oil pastels * water color paints, paintbrush * scissors and glue * pencil * oil pastels or crayons * chalk pastels * green, white, yellow, red, black acrylic or tempura paint * kitchen sponge cut into thirds * salt * colored pencils * black Sharpie marker

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
