Description
Class Experience
This 4-week STEAM class brings science and engineering to life through Tinkerbell and her fairy friends. This month it's all about Periwinkle and the Frost Fairies! We'll explore different aspects of engineering, problem-solving, science, technology, art, and the design process. A weekly, optional at-home challenge is available each week for those students who are interested. Classes are structured to provide a foundational understanding of new concepts through discussion, video, pictures,...
Students will: 1. Conduct experiments involving frost and ice using the scientific method 2. Understand what engineering is and explore the engineering design process 3. Examine problems and create engineering solutions 4. Explore the role of art in science, focusing on geometry, symmetry, and angles
I am a licensed K-12 educator with over a decade of experience. I am also trained in Engineering is Elementary curriculum.
Learners will have optional challenges they can complete each week.
A supply list will be made available prior to each class. Generally items needed will be objects that can be found in the home such coffee filters, plastic bottles, and cardboard for example.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
45 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
All classes include a hands-on element, whether a science experiment, art project, design day, or building and testing of a design. Most classes do not need parent assistance, however, you know your child and your own comfortable level best.
We will refer to the book Snowflake Bentley and view images of frost, snowflakes, and ice shelters
