Teacher expertise and credentials
* I will be taking a break this summer from teaching. I am having knee surgery and my father is currently losing his battle with lung cancer. I have scheduled classes for September, but please note that it may change depending on my father's health. Thank you for understanding.
My name is Adrian. I love to make learning fun! I specialize in breaking down material into "bite-sized" pieces for my students. I like to throw in a good amount of humor and games to ignite the spark of learning. My classes will focus on literature, writing, and social studies. I love combining these disciplines. I have a B.S. in Secondary Social Studies Education. I homeschooled my own 5 children using the "classical school" method. This method combines different subjects to create a well-rounded student. If we studied Ancient Egypt, we also study the science and literature of the time as well. This type of learning really helps bring history to life. I am also an ESL teacher. Teaching ESL has really helped me to understand writing on a new level. I love helping a student form words, then sentences, and eventually essays. It brings me such joy to see their progress. Great books are a passion of mine. My favorite book is by Maria Duenas, The Time in Between.
Outside of teaching, I love to travel and hope to one day retire to Mexico. I love the people and culture of Mexico. I am learning to speak Spanish. I currently live in Pennsylvania with my family and the cutest Maine-coon cat named Moo. Maybe he will join our class!
