*Students who have completed Semester 1 of this course will be given first opportunity to enroll in this listed Semester 2 course. A wide variety of adventures will supply a rich foundation for imaginative and enjoyable writing. Your students will work through IEW Units 5-8 as they learn to write from pictures, summarize references, write personal narratives, and pen formal essays. Each week, the teacher will introduce the structure, as well as elements of style, such as quality adjectives, strong verbs, use of clauses, etc... Vocabulary building, and practice including these rich words in our writing is also included. Concepts will be introduced through direct instruction, guided practice, peer interaction, and occasional interactive games. Please see the "materials" section for information on the required text. This course has two parts, and this is the second portion. Learners should have either completed Semester 1 of this specific course, OR have had some other experience with the IEW method before enrolling in this course. Prerequisite skills include being able to write in complete sentences, form key-word-outlines from a source text (covered in prior IEW courses), and read at a 3rd grade level or above. Upon registration, I would love hear about your student's past experiences with IEW, as this will help me discern how to best mentor your child in writing.
