Fable Fun in the Sun/Phonics, Reading and Writing Class -Level 3
Class experience
This ongoing summer reading class is intended for learners who currently are reading on a 3rd grade reading level and based on Levelled Readers, the learner should be reading materials N through P. Although ages are somewhat flexible, your learner will be most successful if they are currently working on a third grade reading level. The class is offered June through August and will focus on a different fable or short story each week. The first class of each week will focus on phonics,...
Students will review third grade skills. Students will remain actively engaged in language arts activities over the summer.
I am a retired elementary teacher with experience in public, private and homeschool settings which included work with deaf and special needs children. I love to see children develop a love for reading and be able to relate what they read to everyday experiences.
Students should bring pencil, paper, wipe-off board/marker, colored pencils or crayons, reading passage and comprehension questions for the story of the week. Reading passages can be found at https://www.k5learning.com/reading-comprehension-worksheets/first-grade-3/stories-kids-fables. You can find many more free, printable worksheets to practice and improve reading comprehension, vocabulary and writing skills at k5learning.com (See Parental Guidance Statement )
Parental Guidance Statement: The reading passages come from k5learning resources. These passages need to be downloading free of charge directly from the website. There is no membership fee and a vast supply of supplemental learning materials available to teachers and parents alike. I have written permission to use the materials in this online class, but I am unable to send you PDF files of stories due to copywrite laws. Here is the link to use for the Level 1 classes... https://www.k5learning.com/reading-comprehension-worksheets/first-grade-1/stories-kids-fables 1. Go to the link 2. Select the passage for the week 3. Print the passage and the comprehension questions 4. You do NOT need to print the answer sheet. IF you choose to print it for your benefit, please do not let your child have access to it. We will use the passage the first class of each week. They will need a paper copy of the passage in order to do some of the activities in class. These activities may include finding and marking target words, punctuation marks, answers to comprehension questions, etc.
