Students will review first grade skills. Students will remain actively engaged in language arts activities over the summer.
I am a retired elementary teacher with experience in public, private and homeschool settings which included work with deaf and special needs children. I love to see children develop a love for reading and be able to relate what they read to everyday experiences.
Parents can reread the passages we read in class to allow students practice to improve reading fluency and expression.
Students should bring pencil, paper, wipe-off board/marker, colored pencils or crayons, reading passage and comprehension questions for the story of the week. Reading passages can be found at https://www.k5learning.com/reading-comprehension-worksheets/first-grade-1/stories-kids-fables. You can find many more free, printable worksheets to practice and improve reading comprehension, vocabulary and writing skills at k5learning.com (See Parental Guidance Statement ) Special Note: Go to https://www.k5learning.com/reading-comprehension-worksheets/first-grade-1/stories-kids-fables Print the stories listed for the 12 weeks. In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parental Guidance Statement: The reading passages come from k5learning resources. These passages need to be downloading free of charge directly from the website. There is no membership fee and a vast supply of supplemental learning materials available to teachers and parents alike. I have written permission to use the materials in this online class, but I am unable to send you PDF files of stories due to copywrite laws. Select the passage for the week 3. Print the passage and the comprehension questions 4. You do NOT need to print the answer sheet. IF you choose to print it for your benefit, please do not let your child have access to it. We will use the passage the first class of each week. They will need a paper copy of the passage in order to do some of the activities in class. These activities may include finding and marking target words, punctuation marks, answers to comprehension questions, etc.
