Learn about extreme weather!

This fun class is run over four weeks, learners will have fun and learn about different types of extreme weather patterns

Each week will consist of a video lesson which the children can watch to learn about the particular weather we will be working on, they will then use the knowledge they have gained to play an online escape room which I created for them. They will use the OutSchool classroom to discuss the clues and support each other in solving the game. The children will need to work through the game and prove they have learnt the information with this fun lesson. These types of games encourage critical thinking skills.

While this class does not meet live, the children will still be expected to participate by playing the online game with the other students and commenting on discussions in the classroom. 

The games are created by myself, learners will be given a secure url that temporarily hosts the game so it is only available to members of our class. No additional log ins will be required, once the class ends the url will expire. 

Week 1: This week we will learn about volcanoes, the children will learn they different types of volcano, why they erupt and explore the eruptions on a scientific level. After the lesson the learners will be invited to take part in a fun escape room game, where they can work to solve puzzles using the information they have learnt in the lesson. The learners will be expected to complete the puzzles and support each other with clues they discover. 

Week 2: This week we will learn about tornadoes, the children will learn the types and effects of tornadoes and how they occur. After the lesson the learners again be will be invited to take part in a fun escape room game.

Week 3: This week we will learn about earthquakes, the children will learn how why they happen, where they happen and the ways they are studied. As with previous weeks, after the lesson the learners again be will be invited to take part in a fun escape room game to use their new knowledge to solve puzzles as part of a team.

Week 4: In the final week we will learn about the tsunamis, the children will learn what they are, why they happen, and the effects they have. For a final time learners again be will be invited to take part in an escape room game to demonstrate their new knowledge and support their classmates in solving puzzles.
