This class is the second in an on-going series highlighting the lives of important people throughout history. We will explore a brief biography of their life, the society and culture that shaped them, and what contributions they made in their field. We will discuss how their lives would be different if they had been born in a different time and culture. My goal with these classes is to have an inside look at what led to these individuals to becoming memorable names, and what we can learn from each of them. I also have an ongoing series of women throughout history for those that are interested. Week 1 - Steve Irwin - "The Crocodile Hunter" Week 2 - Stan Lee - Comic writer Week 3 - George Washington - 1st President of the United States Week 4 - Thomas Edison - American Inventor Week 5 - J.R.R. Tolkien - British author Week 6 - Woodrow Wilson - 28th President of the United States Week 7 - The Wright Brothers - developed first powered aircraft Week 8 - Martin Luther King Jr. - American Civil Rights leader Each class will consist of slides, videos, and readings. The first part of each class will be a lecture type class where I will review a mini-biography, and listen or watch any film or recordings. The second part of the class will be an open discussion of what our thoughts about that person is and what we can learn to implement in our own lives. Each week will include a list of optional homework assignments (due in classes 2-8) that are designed to enhance the students understanding of the topics discussed. I believe that in everything that we read and learn about there is something that we can implement in our own lives to help us achieve our goals. This class is just a brief look into these amazing people. If you are intrigued and would like to learn more, please check out my other classes, Great Personalities from History. We will take 8 weeks to explore more in depth the lives and history surrounding some amazing figures from history individually.
