Extinct: Animals We've Lost in the Last 100 Years

Several species are being driven to extinction thanks, in large part, to human interference. Sometimes that interference is direct—poaching for big game trophies or animal tusks, and sometimes, it's indirect, such as when land is developed and disrupts habitats and entire ecosystems. In this class, we will cover some of the animals that became extinct in the last 100 years. We will discuss each animal and why they became extinct. We will have a conversation about conservation and how we can protect the animals that are currently endangered. My classes are well structured and are discussion-based. We start the class with a "check-in" activity, which aims to allow each student to share anything about their day/week. We then follow a presentation and have discussions about each animal. Students can share their prior knowledge through teacher-led questions and they are also encouraged to ask their own questions as well. This class fosters critical thinking as students are encouraged to make connections between different animals. A worksheet is shared in the classroom upon enrolment which can be filled out during class time and a short quiz is shared after class which will help the learners check their understanding. I am a inclusive teacher who aims to ensure my classes are a safe space for learning & growth. In my class, all children are welcomed and embraced.
