In this lesson, learners will explore the fascinating ancient world of extinct animals. We will delve into the history of some of the most iconic extinct creatures, such as mammoths, saber-toothed tigers, and the dodo bird. We will explore places where fossils have been found such as under a department store in Ilford, UK to the mysterious Brea tar pits of Los Angeles! During the lesson, students will learn about the life and times of these animals, including their habitats, diets, and physical characteristics. We will discuss the factors that led to their extinction and the efforts being made to preserve their legacies through fossils and scientific research. We will also touch on the role humans played in the extinction of these animals and the lessons we can learn from these events. Throughout the lesson, students will be encouraged to ask questions and share their own insights and opinions. I will use a variety of learning tools and resources, including videos, images, and interactive activities, to keep students engaged and help them connect with the topic in a meaningful way.
