Course Description: In this personalized 1:1 tutoring session, I will provide tailored support based on the specific needs of each student. The focus of the session will be determined by what parents communicate as a need and/or what I identify as areas of growth based on assessments given during the first class. Whether your child needs help with decoding, spelling, punctuation, morphology, or understanding syllable types, I will create a customized lesson plan that targets their individual learning goals. Topics Covered: Phonological awareness and decoding strategies Syllable types and syllable division Spelling patterns and word structure Punctuation, including comma usage and sentence structure Comprehension strategies (for those struggling with stamina or understanding text) Morphology: understanding roots, prefixes, suffixes, and how they form words Articulatory features for improved decoding (for students struggling with sound discrimination) Class Structure: The 50-minute session will be divided into short, focused segments that engage the student in active learning. We’ll begin with a quick warm-up to get them comfortable, followed by targeted activities related to the focus of the lesson, and conclude with a brief review or practice task. I’ll adjust the pace based on the student’s needs to ensure comprehension and success. Teaching Method: I use a structured, multisensory approach, incorporating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning strategies. Through a combination of verbal explanations, hands-on activities, and interactive exercises, I help students build skills they can apply immediately. Depending on the student's goals, we may use flashcards, interactive games, or written exercises. For morphology, students will learn how to break down complex words into their components, understanding how prefixes, suffixes, and roots influence word meaning. Teaching Style: My teaching style is patient, encouraging, and adaptive. I create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. I use positive reinforcement and break complex concepts into manageable steps to ensure success. I work closely with each student to help them build confidence and independence in their learning. Learner Interaction: Students will interact with me throughout the session, asking questions, participating in activities, and receiving immediate feedback. There will be minimal lecture time, as I focus on student participation, games, interactive tasks, and problem-solving exercises. Depending on the student’s focus area, I may incorporate slides, digital tools, or brief video clips to enhance the lesson. By the end of each session, students will have had the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned through active practice and interaction. Let me know if this works for you or if you'd like any further changes!
