Description
Class Experience
Students will be able to read a book using expression, including: using different voices for each character, accurately expressing emotion through facial expressions and intonation, and reading punctuation accurately. Students will be able to build fluency in reading through repeated practice of a familiar story.
Students may choose to read the story practiced in class to their families to share what they have learned. They may also choose to record a video to share of them reading a story. Students also can choose books from around home and try practicing new skills with a new story family or friends. None will be required, only suggestions for extended practice.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Students will have opportunity in class to read a section, a character, and/or all of a story (depending on the number of learners in class and time permitting) practiced to show understanding of reading expression skills.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
If a student had the Elephant and Piggie books or can borrow from the library, it is a great way for him or her to keep practicing at home as well as have the actual book in class to follow along. I will show my book as well and scan pages or type the text to be displayed for students to see so having a copy is not required.
