Class Experience

Students will improve their understanding of the five steps of the process of writing to produce any kind of essay whereas is compare/contrast, cause-and-effect, or any other organizational structure.
Students will improve their use of conjunctions, transitions, and vocabulary of parts of speech.

I learned writing at a young age before entering first grade (There was no kinder at my time many moons ago.). My mother used to sit with me to write a letter in response to my aunt after receiving a box of gifts. She taught me the art of expressing myself clearly and being thankful. Thanks, mom! I am convinced that writing is, potentially, one of the most important skills that we learn. Some forms of communication and most jobs require some form of writing, as does entry into many programs, including trade school or college. By embedding essay-writing in your learner's knowledge toolbox, they are being provided with a solid foundation that will allow for an incredibly strong future construction of knowledge. Parents, make sure your child is doing the homework. Your children will thank you too!
I am a teacher with master's degree certified in English. I have been working with students for over 20 years in-person and virtually. Students assigned to me have improved their writing skills to the level of passing the state assessments. Just read the reviews!

In a shared document of Google docs, students will be asked to work on their expository essay by sections (introduction, body, and conclusion) at home following the process of writing. They will apply the six traits of writing: organization, ideas, unity, coherence, clarity...
Weeks 1-4:
Day 1: Write an introduction
Day 2: Write a Body of three paragraphs
Day 3: Write a conclusion and publish the essay
Total of four essays.
Note: The final essay is used as an assessment.
 6 files available upon enrollment
Paper and pens for warm-up quick writing activity
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
Application of the process of writing
Identification of all the elements that make an expository essay
Written expository sentences, paragraphs, and essays.
The final essay on the third day of each week will be evidence of whether they have a passing grade or not.
2 hours 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
We will refer to the article How to Deal With Isolation over the course of the class. Essays will be written in google docs for immediate feedback between classes.
We will Google information to elaborate the essays during the draft and revision steps of the process of writing essays if needed.
