Beginner Level
Using a pencil, a piece of graph paper and a straight edge, scissors optional, students will explore the Pythagorean Theorem, discovering not only how but also why it works. We’ll cover right angles, hypotenuse, squaring numbers, square roots, including estimating them, measuring distances and estimating fractional measurements. Prior knowledge of the follow is helpful but not required, as they will be reviewed during the class: angles, measuring distance between two points, basic decimals and fractions, squares and square roots, and irrational numbers.
